Wawrinka, the 40-year-old who first competed at Roland Garros in 2005, won the title at the clay-court major in 2015. The Swiss has advanced to at least the quarter-finals five times and owns a 46-18 record at the tournament, according to the Infosys ATP Win/Loss Index.

The 38-year-old Gasquet debuted at Roland Garros in 2002 as a 15-year-old. The former No. 7 in the PIF ATP Rankings, a 2016 quarter-finalist on the terre battue, will retire after the event.

Tournament organisers also announced eight of the nine qualifying wild cards, awarding a spot in the qualifying draw to Robin Bertrand, Geoffrey Blancaneaux, Sascha Gueymard Wayenburg, Moise Kouame, Mae Malige, Matteo Martineau, Luka Pavlovic and Clement Tabur.
