After nearly a season and a half disrupted by injury, Marin Cilic has undergone another surgery on his right knee.

The 35-year-old Croatian announced the surgery via social media on Friday. Cilic, a former No. 3 in the PIF ATP Rankings and a 20-time tour-level champion, last competed in February in Buenos Aires.

“The last few months have been spent trying to find solutions to treat difficulties I have with my knee,” Cilic wrote on Instagram. “I made the decision to undergo another knee surgery, after careful consideration and lots of helpful advice from expert doctors. This felt like the best option to move forward to reach full recovery.”

Cilic, who first underwent surgery on his right knee in early 2023, is a former No. 3 in the PIF ATP Rankings. The Croatian played only two tour-level matches last season and has played four so far in 2024, but he now hopes that another surgery will enable him to get back to his best.

“My desire to play again at the highest level hasn't faded, on the contrary, it is as strong as ever, and I am hopeful that this additional surgery will help me get closer to being back on court," continued Cilic.

“This journey the last 15 months has been challenging, but I am motivated to get back and thankful to you all for your support throughout.”
