Shang Juncheng is one of the brightest #NextGenATP talents in tennis. The 18-year-old Chinese star has proven that this week at the Bank of China Hong Kong Tennis Open, where he is into the semi-finals.

How has the lefty, currently No. 143 in the Pepperstone ATP Live Rankings, evolved from a young boy watching the China Open in Beijing to competing with and beating some of the best players on the ATP Tour?

We look at Shang’s origins in a special video feature of more than 14 minutes with exclusive access to Shang and his family.

“I started playing when I was almost six years old in winter, going to an indoor court. That is my first memory,” Shang said. “I thought people were playing, they were running, they had a tennis ball in their end. That was pretty cool.

“And then I started practising a little bit more and found out it was a very fun sport. That’s how I started. I really enjoyed those times and I think that was a good foundation to my career.”
