I was hitting a few balls and the coach at the club said to bring me back the next day. He saw that I had something for tennis. That's how it started. I went back to the club again and I never wanted to leave. That was my life. That was my dream. That's the thing I love the most."

    • Favourite shot is forehand and lists his favourite tournament as the Australian Open.

    • Idol growing up was Rafael Nadal: "He inspires me. It's insane the values he's sharing and what he's doing for the sport. I write before the matches and sometimes during the match, I'll write, 'What would Rafa do?'. Because I know he would never give up and always try his best. I have a notepad on court and during a changeover when I feel nervous or tight, it just reminds me of the basics."

    • Says his father is his biggest influence, pushing him to be the best in tennis and guiding him throughout his career.

    • Growing the game in Tunisia is an important goal: "Malek Jaziri and Ons Jabeur have been pushing us a lot. When we see their success, we think we can do it as well. It's the right time to be a Tunisian tennis player right now. I have so much support back home and tennis is getting big in the country. It gives me a lot of motivation and a lot of pride."

    • Says his best quality is being a competitor on the court and worst quality is being a perfectionist.

I just entered as a candidate to get the baccalaureate in the French system of education. I did it all myself while competing in tournaments. No one thought I would make it that year, because I was also playing in all the big junior tournaments. Also, going to college was important for me. I still have a semester left, which I want to leave for my post-tennis career. When I'm done with tennis, I can finish it."

    • Best advice received: "To live every day to the fullest and never live in the future or the past. This advice helps me as a tennis player. I'm thinking to play every point 100 per cent and that's all you can do. It doesn't matter, win or lose, you'll be happy and proud of yourself at the end of the day."
