Won $103,507 in prize money in 1985. Shocked everyone at 1985 La Quinta
by winning his first Super Series title as host pro (he respresents the club
on the tour), as a wild-card entry, ranked 143. He defeated S. Davis,
Aguilera, Benhabiles, Holmes and Pate in that event, raising his ranking all
the way to 35 in one week. Only one player has won a Grand Prix Super Series
event with lower ranking (Edmondson, '75-76 Australian Open).
Ironically, he was forced to qualify at his next Grand Prix event, Fort
Myers, because of his pre-La Quinta ranking, and was defeated in the first
round of qualifying by his doubles partner Robert Van't Hof.
