Reached the final of the German closed championships in 1992 (l. to Mronz) and won the Victorian Junior Championships in 1993, the same year he won the Australian Open junior doubles title (w/Christian Tambue). In 1993, finished No. 14 in doubles in the junior world rankings. The German national junior singles and doubles champion in 1993 and the No. 1 ranked junior that year. Trains at the Etuf Club in Essen where he plays bundesliga. Coached by New Zealander Neil McAffer (since September 1993). Reached his first career ATP Tour doubles final in October 1993 at the Sydney Indoor (w/Mronz) and in March 1994, advanced to his first Tour singles final (as a qualifier) at Zaragoza, losing to Magnus Larsson. Improved his ATP Tour Ranking from 310 to No. 186 in only his second career Tour outing in singles.
